Happy New Year

What a gorgeous start it has been to 2019! Sunny days, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and lots of fresh snowfall in the mountains. Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park is a stunning setting to view the white-capped mountains and if you have not been here lately – now is a perfect time to visit!

We are excited for the year ahead. Many new things are on the horizon. Monthly hikes led by our seasoned guide and GRPF steward Allan Sitter will kick off February 18. These hikes are limited to 15 participants, so register on our website early if you are interested! We continue to fundraise for a native plant garden outside our Visitor Information Centre and a new display in the Centre showcasing our steward-led Herbarium Project’s work. If you are interested in donating to these projects, please do!

We are also pleased to share that construction on a new stand-alone classroom is set to begin this spring (pending funding). Led by Alberta Parks, this building will be our new Centre for educational programming and replace our former classroom, which has been converted to offices. In this new building, we will have more space to welcome children from around the Calgary area and will be able to host our monthly park talks once again.

I am also excited to announce that with support from the Government of Alberta’s Recreation and Physical Activity Branch, we will be offering a series of guided bicycle tours of the park in 2019! These tours will allow you to learn about the history and ecology of Glenbow Ranch all while riding your own bike. Our guides will have bike maintenance training, First Aid and a deep knowledge of Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park. Keep fit and have fun! Stay tuned for more information.

We are also planning many other exciting events and projects, so stay tuned for more!

We continue to offer our core programming and have been busy providing unique experiential learning opportunities to thousands of local children. Discover Archeology, Explore Grasslands, and our Pond Invertebrate Species Program continue to be offered throughout the year. Our golf cart tours will be back in the Spring.

And of course, our stewards, sponsored by Catalyst, continue to do important and rewarding work throughout the park. If you are interested in becoming a steward yourself – please let us know!

Have a wonderful beginning to 2019,

Sarah
